On the palate: light-bodied yet full-flavoured with hints of burnt coffee, earthy bitterness, liquorice, and warming spice.
Byrrh (pronounced 'beer') was founded in France in the 19th century. This grand quinquina is a wine-based aperitif with no added sugar (all the sweetness comes from the muscat base wine) and flavoured with various botanicals, including coffee, bitter orange, cocoa, and cinchona (quinine) bark. A beautiful cocktail ingredient and a fine apéritif sipped over ice with a twist of orange or lemon peel (maybe as you write a postcard, after a shot of espresso), or served long with soda.
